Why Dr. Reid’s Message Matters

Dr. Reid is not only talking about success—he has been through it, from the boardroom to the top of Mount Everest.
His reflections mix the different aspects of the modern world such as entrepreneurship, endurance, and mindset mastery which, in turn, inspire the implementation of changes that last.

Dr. Reid's narrative—from losing a critical contract to reaching the top of Mount Everest—reveals the power of resilience in changing failure into the success. Dr. Reid is a storyteller who supports thinking around setbacks being the beginning of comebacks with his own experiences and lessons that motivate the practice of endurance, concentration, and a refreshed zeal for climbing.

With nearly two decades of hands-on entrepreneurial experience, Dr. Reid Tileston blends academic insight with real-world execution. As one of the architects of the Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) program at the University of Chicago, he provides entrepreneurs with a proven roadmap for successful acquisitions and sustainable growth. Having acquired, built, and sold multiple companies—with a 10x return on his most recent venture and recognition as a top-performing Anytime Fitness franchisee—Dr. Reid bridges the gap between theory and practice. As a Professor at Brigham Young and Case Western Reserve University as well as being a graduate of UC Berkeley, Chicago Booth, and now a PhD candidate at Case Western, he continues to shape the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders through both his research and lived experience.

Using insights from the challenges of summiting Everest, Dr. Reid not only shows that there is a strong link between endurance and leadership but also draws the connection very closely. Great leaders are revealed to be those who possess self-discipline, are adaptable, and have the ability to remain calm during a crisis, and everyone can acquire the grit needed to lead effectively in uncertain times.

Dr. Reid puts the question to his listeners of what their “Everest” is and calls for them to pursue it with determination and clarity. He does this through an effective presentation of lessons in mindset, mastery, and momentum, showing how the skills of being adaptable, accepting challenges, and constantly working towards personal and professional growth can be acquired.
